Planning a London Layover
Everything that happens between booking a London layover tour and being dropped back at your departure terminal — where the driver stands, what the fare does and does not cover, what happens to your bags, and which two listings will not give you your money back.
Booking a London layover tour: what actually happens
You book online, and the operator asks for your inbound flight number, your terminal and a contact number. Most of them watch the flight. If you land late, the tour shortens rather than disappearing, which is the single most useful thing about booking a private car rather than making your own way in.
Confirmation is immediate on most of these listings and within 48 hours on two of them. You are sent a meeting point and a phone number. On the day you clear UK border control like any other arrival, walk out into the arrivals hall, and look for your name on a board. Where your driver meets you, terminal by terminal
Heathrow runs four passenger terminals, numbered 2, 3, 4 and 5. Which one you land in decides where you are met and, to a lesser extent, how long the road takes.

If you are landing at one terminal and departing from another, factor in the transfer. Heathrow runs a free shuttle bus between terminals every 10 minutes, and transfers on the Elizabeth line between the three airport stations are free (Heathrow). What the fare covers, and what it never does
Not one of these listings includes admission to an attraction. There is no ticket to the Tower of London, to Westminster Abbey, or to anything else in any of these fares. That is not an oversight on the operators' part: a timed-entry queue is the fastest way to turn a comfortable connection into a missed flight, and none of these products claims to skip one.

Luggage: in the vehicle, or left at the airport
On a normal connection your hold luggage is checked through to your final destination and you never see it, so what you are dealing with is cabin bags. On the private vehicle products those travel with you. Tell the operator at booking if you have had to collect everything, so they send something with room; one listing publishes a luggage chart showing how many cases fit each vehicle class.

Prices, and how they are quoted
Half the confusion about what a layover tour costs comes from one thing: some fares are per person and some are for the whole vehicle. A per-vehicle fare covers everyone up to that product's cap, so it divides. A per-person fare does not. The table sorts every listing by its headline figure and shows what two travellers would actually pay.

Cancelling, and the listings that will not refund you
Most refund in full if you cancel at least 24 hours before the start time, and several let you reserve now and pay later. That matters more here than on a normal tour, because your plans are attached to an aircraft.
The seventeen-language private tour from Heathrow and the Blue Badge walking tour are non-refundable from the moment you book. Both say so on their own card and their own page. Where does the driver meet me at Heathrow?
Inside the arrivals hall, holding a board with your name on it. Several listings name the exact spot: in front of WHSmith for Terminals 2 and 3, and in front of Costa Coffee for Terminals 4 and 5. You will be sent the details after booking, along with a contact number.
Can I take my luggage on the tour?
Usually yes — these are private vehicles and the bags travel with you. Every driving and walking product here is private — only your party travels. Each listing says so, and it is the reason the fares look higher than a coach seat. Lounge access is the exception, since a lounge is a shared room by definition.
What size vehicle will I get?
It depends on the listing and on how many of you there are. The caps run from three people in a classic Mini to seven in a Mercedes V-Class, and each card here shows that tour's own maximum. Tell the operator your numbers and your luggage at booking.
Is lunch included?
No, and most listings say so explicitly. Several drivers will build in a stop for fish and chips or a pub lunch, but you pay for it yourself. Carry a contactless card; almost nowhere in London needs cash.
